Agriculture
Almost 70% of the total territory of Odessa Oblast has fertile agricultural land. The region belongs to the area of intensive steppe arable farming. Natural conditions are favorable for growing winter wheat, maize, barley, millet, sunflower, fruits, vegetables, grapes and sugar beats.
Agriculture is the second leading sector in the region in terms of volume of production and employment. Available land in the region comprises 5% of Ukrainian land and 6% of Ukrainian arable land. Besides, half of the vineyards in the country are situated in Odessa region. Production of Odessa winemakers is very competitive and if investments are put up here, wine production in Odessa has a chance to take its place in the world markets.
Agricultural sector provides jobs for 35% of total population and it creates almost 50% of regional budget. More than 800 enterprises and more than 6000 private farmers are working in this sector. Investments totaled $575 thousand in 2003.
Transport
Odessa Oblast is located on the cross-road of two transport corridors. It has 8 sea ports, access to Danube that connects our region with the Western Europe, wide network of roads, railways and air traffic. All these factors define important meaning of Odessa region as a transport hub.
Railway length more than 4200 km is located on the territory of 6 regions of Ukraine and serves as a link for transportation of cargoes and passengers to more than 70 countries of the world.
Regular bus connection exists in 763 locations of the region. Passengers are transported by more than 4 thousand buses.
One of the most attractive and important sectors for the region is the maritime sector. Significant experience of work with investors exists in the largest port of Oblast – Odessa trade sea port.
Tourism
Odessa oblast is a region with high tourism potential. Significant possibilities for the tourism development are connected with the natural landscape and recreation facilities of the region. Odessa is also a perspective health resort, it has excellent places for “green” tourism: Dniester delta, Danube plavni, Vilkovo. Belgorod-Dnestrovsky is of important interest for the development of tourism. The most attractive sites here are the complex of the ancient town Tira; the medieval Akkerman fortress. There are not so many similar reserves in the West while people who travel are interested in new impressions and go for the images they can’t get at home.
