Ukraine will open its borders for Europeans, while the EU will only simplify the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens
During the “Business and authorities are partners” forum President of Ukraine Viktor Yushenko said that Ukraine will introduce free-visa regime for the EU citizens. Yushenko mentioned that he had just come from Germany where everyone knows Ukraine and is proud of it. But there is still one sticking point concerning Ukrainian illegal emigrants. Their number increased dramatically increased dramatically in the last few years.
Generally the European Union approves of Ukraine’s introduction of no-visa regime with the EU countries though it doesn’t intend to undertake the same step. Under Yushenko’s initiative it is planned to introduce no-visa regime by 29 March with the EU countries with the possibility of its prolongation. Vice prime-minister on European integration Oleg Rybachuk confirmed that Ukraine intends to cancel visa regime for Europeans and added that Europeans who would like to come to Kiev for Eurovision won’t have any problems with Ukrainian visa/ As information agencies report, Mr Rybachuk also expects that in April the EU could enable Ukraine with the market economy status. Vice prime-minister also said the he expects the considerable increase of investments to Ukrainian economy this year. Ukrainian and European youth advocates the simplification of visa procedures for participants of different youth exchange programs. On 19-22 of March in Kiev students of Ukraine, Poland and Germany addressed to the Ministers of foreign affairs of these countries with the request on this point. 14/03/2005 www.proeuropa.info |
